Family road trips are a great way to create lasting memories and spend quality time together. I grew up with parents who loved planning and taking epic road trips from our home in Southwestern Ontario to destinations all across North America including southern California, British Columbia, Florida, Canada’s East Coast and all the points in-between. Through these ultimate road tripping adventures, my sister and I were exposed to so many amazing cities, national and provincial/state parks, museums, galleries, monuments, beaches and other attractions that we only got to see because they were along the route to our ultimate destination. By the time I was a teenager I had visited nine out of ten provinces and forty-five out of fifty states – all due to my parents’ love of road trips.
Because of this amazing childhood experience, I have tried to share my love of road tripping adventures with my own family. We have taken many road trips over the last several years including multiple trips to Canada’s East Coast, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, New York City, plus many more weekend road trips to our favourite amusement parks and water park hotels. As full-time working parents with busy jobs and kids who play (multiple) competitive sports, it’s sometimes hard to fit road tripping into our schedule, but family road trips are still a favourite past time.
The idea of road tripping with kids (especially little ones) might sound daunting, but you would be surprised how easy it can be with the the right level of planning and preparedness (and of course snacks and screen time)! Your kids might surprise you how well they adapt to riding in the car for hours at a time. Family road tripping (and travel in general) is easier for us now that our kids are older. A summer family road trip is definitely something the kids look forward to every year.
Road trips don’t have to be epic long distance adventures to be fun and create lasting family memories. Many of our road trips are short weekend get aways (often revolving around a sporting event)! Friends and colleagues often ask me for tips on where to stay and what to see when visiting destinations they know we love (especially Cape Breton and Walt Disney World). I have so much fun doing this that I decided to create this blog because I enjoy writing and sharing my love of road trips and fun family vacation spots. I have included posts on our favourite destinations along with tips on where to stay, when to stop, what to pack and how to keep the kids entertained along the way.
Follow us on our road tripping adventures as we explore and share some of our favourite destinations in Canada and the United States – all within driving distance from our home in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
